Getting Involved in the Dev Community

How the people in the community provide help, support, guidance, and inspiration

❯ git push heroku master

So, you've successfully deployed your first project and finished your coffee... Now what?

the next step is to connect. You need to have a network built around you to share resources, challenge your understanding, and push you to be a better developer. A network that teaches you, but also one where you can contribute what you learn and the resources that have helped you. Essentially, the question you must ask is:

Where will I connect with other developers? 🔌

Connection Points

Find your connection point(s)! For some, you may have an open-source project that you are very excited about. For others, it may be that you just want to go to conferences, learn from the best in the industry, and maybe even get on a track to start sharing your own findings with others. Yet for others, maybe you desire more low-key and highly focused opportunities to connect. That is where developer meetups are very helpful.

Examples

So, here I want to provide you with a few examples and options for connection points:

  1. GitHub (Collaborate on Open-Source Software)

  2. StackOverflow (Ask and answer questions; forum style!)

  3. Developer Conferences

    1. DevTernity (online only)

    2. SXSW Interactive

    3. Go

      1. GopherCon 2023
    4. React

      1. React Summit 2023
    5. Rust

      1. RustConf 2023

Go forth and connect!

Please leave a comment letting me know your favorite ways to connect with the larger tech industry and feel like you are a part of this community.
